SOCIETY/ Jim Fitton, geologist, jailed in Iraq
Message from Richard Hughes, Executive Secretary:
You may be aware of the case of Jim Fitton, a retired British geologist, who has been jailed for fifteen years in Iraq for smuggling artefacts out of the country.
A number of Fellows have written to me asking for the Society to support a campaign for his early release from prison. In early May, we wrote to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office seeking their assistance with the case following Mr Fitton’s detention .
An online petition demanding his release can be found here, should you wish to sign and show your support. |
